At Aspire Port City Academy, we believe every student deserves a safe, welcoming, and respectful school where they can learn and thrive. Our school expectations help create a positive environment for everyone by teaching students how to show respect, responsibility, kindness, and leadership in every area of campus.

Throughout the school year, students learn and practice these expectations in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, playgrounds, and other shared spaces. By working together, we create a campus where every Puma feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Learn Our School Expectations

Our students help teach school expectations through short videos that demonstrate what it looks like to make positive choices around campus.

Families are encouraged to watch these videos together and talk about how these expectations can be practiced both at school and at home.

Hand Signals

In order to remain safe and respectful on campus, during class and in the cafeteria, Port City scholars use silent hand signals to indicate their needs.

Cafeteria Expectations

By lunch time, our students are ready to eat from all their hard work and learning.

Recess is a time where a kid can be a kid. However, we want to make sure that every kid on campus is safe.

We use the hallways to get around everyday.

Emergency Expectations

Port City Academy is a fun and safe environment for every student but emergencies can happen.

In the video, students learn about the expectations when an emergency happens on campus and what they should do to remain safe.

Bathroom Expectations

Every student will need to use the restroom at one time or another.

In the video, students will learn about the expectations when using the bathrooms at PCA.

Per 2025-2026 policy on bathroom usage at Port City:

No more than one boy and one girl may go to the bathroom at a time. (Excluding recess)
All scholars, 2nd-5th grade, must log their bathroom use using SmartPass from the designated classroom computer.
All scholars must carry a pass to the bathroom. Scholars without a pass will be sent back to class.
Keeping the bathrooms clean is everyone's responsibility

A lot can happen in a school day, but how a student starts the day can make a big impact on their learning.

Learning is at the center of our daily routine but from time to time we love to have a good time and celebrate our wins.

In the videos, Pumas will learn about the PCA House System, Puma Store, Campus Incentives, and how they can earn and spend their Puma Cards.

Why School Expectations Matter

Our expectations help students develop important life skills that extend far beyond elementary school.

By practicing responsibility, kindness, respect, and self-discipline every day, students learn habits that prepare them for success in middle school, high school, college, careers, and their communities.

When everyone follows the same expectations, our campus becomes a place where all students can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Partnering With Families

Families play an important role in reinforcing positive behaviors.

Talking about school expectations at home and celebrating your child's positive choices helps build confidence, responsibility, and strong character.

When schools and families work together, students are more likely to succeed.

Ask your child to teach you one of our school expectations! When students explain what they've learned, it reinforces positive habits and gives families a great opportunity to continue the conversation at home.
